RENOVAVIDA WILL BRING SOLAR ENERGY TO MORE THAN 197,000 PEOPLE IN RURAL AREAS OF PERU

ree

In Peru, nearly 700,000 households still live without access to electricity, according to data from the National Foresight Observatory of the National Center for Strategic Planning (Ceplan). This reality highlights the urgency of closing energy infrastructure gaps, especially in rural areas where connection to the conventional electric grid is limited or nonexistent, as the unit cost of extending these networks to remote regions is prohibitive within the framework of projected social profitability.

In response to this challenge, RenovaVida, a public–private social intervention program, will implement rural electrification projects using Autonomous Photovoltaic Systems (SFVA), benefiting more than 197,000 households—around one million people—across 24 regions of the country. This initiative is part of the concessions granted by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) and aligns with the national strategy for energy inclusion through clean and sustainable sources.

The goal of these projects is not only to provide electricity to these communities but also to ensure the continuity of service over time, promptly addressing users’ needs. This ongoing support is essential to guaranteeing the social impact of this public policy, whose key indicators include: Promoting family interaction during nighttime activities, Facilitating access to education and knowledge, Optimizing time in household tasks through the use of electrical appliances, Enabling economic opportunities in historically excluded areas.

The service rollout will take place progressively, starting with the regions of Loreto and Cusco during the first year, and subsequently expanding to the remaining regions covered by the project: Amazonas, Áncash, Apurímac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Madre de Dios, Lambayeque, Lima, Moquegua, Pasco, Piura, Puno, San Martín, Ucayali, Tacna, and Tumbes.

Through the use of renewable technologies, RenovaVida seeks to offer a continuous, reliable, and locally adapted service. The installation of the systems will be free of charge for each household, while beneficiaries will assume a monthly service fee, adjusted to the geographic location and social conditions of each community. This fee will not exceed the equivalent payment made by low-income rural families connected to the grid (approximately 8 soles per month). RenovaVida will also provide flexible payment options consistent with the socioeconomic realities of vulnerable rural households.

With these initiatives, RenovaVida reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and to improving the quality of life of thousands of Peruvian families, contributing to closing one of the country’s most urgent gaps: access to energy.
